Bossier City, LA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 38-294 opens by declaring the city's intent to prohibit the sale, distribution or discharge of pyrotechnics of any kind, then carves out one seasonal exception: between June 28th and July 5th, and between December 23rd and January 1st, permissible class C fireworks may be sold at retail and discharged, subject to the fire chief's and bureau of fire prevention's approval of the listed item categories, such as Roman candles not exceeding ten balls and 20 grams, sparklers not exceeding five grams and free of chlorates or per chlorates, and firecrackers no longer than one and one-half inches.

Bottle rockets and chlorate or per-chlorate sparklers stay illegal at all times, even during the seasonal window. A public pyrotechnic display, such as a Fourth of July show, needs its own written permit from the chief of fire prevention, filed at least 15 days before 5:00 p.m. in advance of the display; filing between the 15th and fifth day before the event triggers a $1,000.00 penalty fee payable to the Bossier City Fire Department before the application can be approved, and no application is accepted inside five days of the display.

Discharge is barred within 1,000 feet of any hospital, asylum or infirmary, and during the seasonal retail window, fireworks may not be discharged before 10:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m., except until 12:30 a.m. on New Year's Eve. All retail fireworks sales from vehicles are prohibited outright, and sellers must keep stock at least three feet behind a fenced or roped secured area.
