Bossier City, LA Fire Regulations: Propane Storage (2026)

Chapter 50's Fire Prevention Code article, adopted under Sec. 50-31, incorporates the Standard Fire Prevention Code and NFPA 101 by reference, then amends specific sections to fit Bossier City. Sec. 50-34 allows above-ground flammable-liquid storage tanks, including LP-gas tanks, in residential areas only if the installation follows the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission, NFPA 58 and the city's adopted codes, and it requires the bureau of fire prevention to permit and approve any above-ground storage tank over 100 gallons before installation. Sec. 50-35 goes further for bulk LP-gas storage specifically, restricting it to the fire limits established under Sec.

18-34, the same limits that already control where explosives, blasting agents and new bulk plants for flammable or combustible liquids can locate. Sec. 50-36 layers in a rewritten Section 1701 from the adopted fire code: a permit is required for every LP-gas installation irrespective of size of containers or type of occupancy, the bureau of fire prevention can demand plans before installation near adjoining occupancies or unusual conditions, and Section 1701.4.2 as amended requires that the location and size of every above-ground storage tank meet NFPA 58.

The same amendment package, Section 1701.4.4(b), flatly prohibits installing underground LP-gas containers anywhere within city limits, with no exceptions listed. A property owner who disagrees with the fire chief's permit decision can appeal to the city council within 30 days under Sec. 50-38. Because Chapter 50 doesn't set its own fine for these sections, a violation defaults to Sec. 1-9's general Code penalty: up to $500.00 in fines, up to 60 days in jail, or both, with each day of continued violation a separate offense.
