Clifton, NJ Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 351-3B sits in the Conduct article of Chapter 351, Parks and Playgrounds, and reaches beyond a simple ban on setting off fireworks. It prohibits having such material in one's possession in a park at all, not just igniting it, and it covers torpedo rockets, explosives and any inflammable material, plus a catch-all for any substance or compound that becomes dangerous when combined with another. The prohibition also reaches conduct from outside the park: throwing or discharging fireworks into a park from adjacent lands or highways violates the section just as much as setting them off inside the park itself.

The only way around the ban is the discretionary exception in the same subsection: the City of Clifton may grant a permit for a properly supervised fireworks display in a designated park area, meaning organizers of a City-sanctioned show, rather than a private user, are the intended beneficiaries. This sits alongside the park's general alcohol and smoking-material rules in § 351-3A and § 351-3E, and enforcement runs through the Clifton Police Department under § 351-6D, which can eject violators and seize fireworks or explosive material found in the park under § 351-6B and § 351-6C.
