All consumer fireworks are illegal in Isleton year-round. The city has no safe-and-sane fireworks program. Delta levee and dry-grass fire risk drive strict enforcement by Sacramento Metro Fire and CAL FIRE.
Isleton prohibits the sale, possession, and use of all consumer fireworks, including so-called safe-and-sane fireworks. California Health and Safety Code 12500 et seq. governs fireworks, and only state-licensed public displays are permitted. Isleton does not operate its own fire department; fire protection is provided by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and, in surrounding unincorporated Delta areas, by CAL FIRE's Amador-El Dorado Unit and the Delta Fire District. The dry grass and wood-frame historic buildings along Main Street create extreme fire risk. Enforcement is aggressive during July 4 and Lunar New Year periods. Public displays at the Crawdad Festival require a state pyrotechnic operator license and city approval.
Possession of illegal fireworks: up to $1,000 fine per violation under H&S Code 12700. Causing a fire: criminal charges and full restitution for firefighting costs.
