Galt is one of the few Sacramento County cities that permits Safe and Sane fireworks. Sales and discharge are allowed from July 1 through July 4 only, from state-licensed nonprofit booths. All other consumer fireworks remain illegal year-round.
Galt Municipal Code authorizes the sale and use of State Fire Marshal classified Safe and Sane fireworks within city limits for four days each year, from July 1 through July 4. The City issues a limited number of stand permits, almost exclusively to local nonprofits, with applications handled through the Cosumnes CSD Fire Department. Discharge is permitted only on private property with the property owner's consent, and is prohibited in parks, on public streets and sidewalks, and in parking lots. Aerial devices, firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, M-80s, and any other California Dangerous Fireworks remain illegal at all times, as does possession of non-Safe-and-Sane product brought in from Nevada or tribal vendors. Cosumnes CSD and Galt Police run joint enforcement details during the holiday window. California Health and Safety Code Section 12557 authorizes a minimum $1,000 administrative fine for the unlawful use or possession of dangerous fireworks. Fireworks are prohibited on Red Flag Warning days.
Minimum administrative fine of $1,000 for dangerous fireworks possession or discharge (H&S Β§12557). Seizure of product and criminal misdemeanor charges are possible for repeat or aggravated violations.
