Jefferson County, WI Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Sec. 14-63 of the Jefferson County Code does not write its own fireworks rule; instead it adopts Wis. 10, the state's fireworks statute governing the sale, possession and use of fireworks, by reference made a part of this section as if fully set forth herein. Because the county wrote the adoption itself, any act the state statute requires or prohibits becomes required or prohibited under county law too, and the ordinance is written to automatically pick up future amendments or revisions to the state statute without the county board having to re-adopt it.

A violation is penalized under the general penalty procedure in Sec. 00 forfeiture specifically for a fireworks citation, on top of court costs and any statutory surcharges imposed under Wis. ch. 814. This sits in Chapter 14, Article II, the same public-order article that holds the county's disorderly conduct, alcohol and marijuana offenses, and it is enforced the same way, through the Sheriff's Office issuing a uniform citation. Because the county incorporated the state statute rather than replacing it, the actual prohibited conduct, such as which consumer fireworks require a permit and which are banned outright, is defined by the state statute Sec. 14-63 adopts, not by separate county-drafted language.
