Casper, WY Fire Regulations: Propane Storage (2026)

The city adopted the International Fire Code, 2024 Edition, wholesale under § 15.40.010, pursuant to Wyoming Statute § 15-1-119, and defines 'jurisdiction' throughout that code to mean the city of Casper and any city-owned property outside the limits where the code is made applicable (§ 15.40.030). Rather than carve out a separate LP-gas district, § 15.40.050 applies the IFC's Section 6104.2 bulk-storage restriction to every area within the jurisdiction, the same citywide approach the code takes with outside aboveground flammable-liquid tanks under § 15.40.040 (restricted everywhere except within an approved special enclosure) and with explosives and blasting agents under § 15.40.060.

Enforcement runs through the fire department's community risk reduction division, created by § 15.41.020 and supervised by the fire chief, who may detail firefighters as inspectors and recommend technical inspectors to the City Manager. Fees for any permits the Fire Code requires, including those tied to hazardous-materials storage limits under § 15.40.070, are set by council resolution under § 15.40.080(B). An owner who disagrees with a permit denial, or believes the code's true intent was misapplied, may appeal to the Wyoming Council on Fire Protection and Electrical Safety within thirty days of the decision (§ 15.40.090).

Because § 15.40.050 sets no penalty of its own, a violation falls under the code-wide penalty clause at § 15.40.110, which routes punishment through Chapter 1.28's general misdemeanor penalty.
