Abington, PA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Section 88-32A makes a permit mandatory to locate or operate any Mobile Food Unit in Abington Township, and § 88-32B and C add that the vendor or host business must carry insurance under § 88-35 and get the property owner's written permission before setting up. Section 88-33 lays out the permit mechanics: permits run for no more than one year, must be renewed before they expire, cannot be transferred to another vendor, and must be displayed where customers can see them. Every operator needs two permits at once, a Location Permit and a Mobile Food Unit Permit.

There are two kinds of Location Permit: a Host Business Location Permit, capped at five Mobile Food Vendors operating at one time under one host, and a Single Event Location Permit for a specific date or occasion. The Mobile Food Unit Permit itself splits into a Food Truck Permit for units that prepare food on-site and a Food Cart Permit for units that only serve prepackaged or dispensed food, tracking the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Mobile Food Facility Types 1 through 4. Before any Mobile Food Unit Permit issues, § 88-33G(4) requires the vendor to already hold an Abington Township Business License and be current on applicable taxes; unpaid taxes can trigger revocation of an issued permit.

Applications under § 88-33H need a scaled site plan, proof of insurance naming the township as an additional insured, and the property owner's written consent.
