Abington, PA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Article V of Chapter 88, added by Ordinance No. 2230 in June 2025, governs Mobile Food Vendors and Mobile Food Units, defined broadly to cover trucks, carts, stands and kiosks that prepare, sell or distribute food. Section 88-32D limits routine operation under a Host Business Location Permit or a Single Event Location Permit to the BC Business Center, MSH Main Street High Density, MSL Main Street Low Density, MSVC Main Street Village Center, SI-G Suburban Industrial Glenside and SI-W Suburban Industrial Willow Grove districts. Outside those six districts, a vendor may still work a private residential property, at the owner's request, under a Single Event Location Permit, but only for a private event lasting four hours or less, plus one hour of setup and one hour of breakdown.

A vendor who wants to operate somewhere the article does not otherwise cover needs the Zoning Officer's approval through a Special Use Permit, on top of a Single Event Location Permit. Section 88-32E closes the loop by barring operation in any public right-of-way unless that Special Use Permit process authorizes it. The article exempts vehicles that keep moving and never stop in one place for more than 15 minutes, such as ice cream trucks, so those are not bound by the zoning-district limits at all.
