Canton, OH Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Section 1148.12(a)(1) requires anyone operating a Mobile Food Vending Unit, including food trucks and pushcarts, to apply to the City of Canton Zoning Department and obtain a permit before selling, offering or displaying food from City streets, rights-of-way or property. The permit runs on a calendar year, expiring every December 31 regardless of issue date, and cannot be transferred. The application must include the vendor's name, address, phone, email and a description of items sold; a tax identification number; proof of City income tax filing or exemption and that payroll taxes are current; a retail food establishment license under Ohio R.C.

Chapter 3717; a current State of Ohio vendor's license under R.C. 5739.01; a license from the local Board of Health; and proof of general liability insurance of $1,000,000 for a motorized truck or trailer, or $300,000 for a pushcart. Outside the Downtown Canton SID, the annual fee is $250 per Mobile Food Vending Unit; a mobile food service operation or food truck park run as an extension of an existing retail food establishment pays a separate $250 annual application fee. A permit is not required for a vendor at a City-sanctioned or SID-, Hall of Fame-, or Chamber-co-sponsored special event, though the vendor must still notify the Safety Director.

Once permitted, the unit is limited to operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. under 1148.12(a)(3)A and must obey a police order to relocate during an emergency.
