Canton, OH Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Canton Codified Ordinances Section 1134.05(f) prohibits parking or storing any vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 12,500 pounds in a residential district, though privately owned and operated recreational vehicles are specifically excluded from that weight cap. Sections 1134.05(g) and (h) go further for two categories of heavy commercial equipment: tow trucks and semi-tractors and/or trailers cannot be parked or stored in any residential district, or in the CS, B-1, or B-2 business districts, regardless of weight. The rule sits inside the same section that requires ordinary vehicles to park on a constructed driveway surface, so a resident can't sidestep the ban by parking a heavy truck on a paved pad; the district and vehicle-type restrictions apply independently of surface compliance.

Because CS, B-1, and B-2 are Canton's more neighborhood-facing commercial districts, the ban effectively keeps semi-tractors, trailers, and tow trucks confined to heavier commercial and industrial zoning outside those categories. The Zoning Inspector, who administers Chapter 1134, can require relocation of a noncompliant vehicle upon inspection.
