Canton, OH Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Canton Codified Ordinances 351.03, Prohibited Standing or Parking Places, lists eighteen specific spots where a driver cannot stop, stand or park a vehicle within the City: on a sidewalk, curb or street lawn area; in front of a public or private driveway; within an intersection or crosswalk, or within twenty feet of one at an intersection; within ten feet of a fire hydrant; within thirty feet of a stop sign, yield sign or traffic signal; within fifteen feet of an alley; within fifty feet of a railroad crossing; alongside another parked vehicle (double parking); on any bridge, tunnel or freeway roadway; and at any location posted or curbed in yellow.

Section 351.04 separately governs how a vehicle must sit at the curb, requiring the curb-side wheels to be parallel and within twelve inches of the curb, and subsection (c)(1)A. adds the wrong-way rule: except for motorcycles backing into angled or parallel spaces, no vehicle may be stopped or parked facing a direction other than the direction of travel on that side of the road. These sections descend from Ohio R.C. 4511.68 and 4511.69, enacted locally as Canton ordinances, so a violation is a City parking infraction rather than a state citation.

A vehicle blocking a driveway or parked facing oncoming traffic can be ticketed on sight by a Canton police officer or parking enforcement officer, and in obstruction cases under Section 351.01 the vehicle can also be towed to the nearest garage or place of safety at the owner's expense.
