Canton, OH Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Chapter 357 of the Canton Codified Ordinances creates a snow-emergency parking regime in four linked sections. Section 357.01 lets the Mayor, the Director of Public Safety, or the Director of Public Service declare an emergency at their discretion whenever four inches or more of snow accumulates on city streets; the declaration and its later termination must both be announced to local newspaper, radio and television media as soon as practicable. Once declared, Section 357.02 makes it unlawful for anyone to park or leave a vehicle standing on both sides of the streets named in Section 357.04 for the duration of the emergency.

Section 357.04 itself lists dozens of specific street segments where the ban applies, including all of Cleveland Avenue from the north city limits to the south city limits, sections of Market Avenue, and numbered cross streets such as 11th through 55th Streets in the northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest quadrants. Section 357.03 authorizes any duly appointed Police Department officer to order the removal of a vehicle found parked on a listed street during the emergency, at the owner's expense and in addition to the citation penalty.

Because the list in Section 357.04 is tied to the streets named in Sections 357.01 through 357.03, a driver has to check the specific segment against that list rather than assume every Canton street is covered; side streets not named in Section 357.04 are not swept into the ban even during a declared emergency.
