Tyler requires each mobile food unit to hold a Transient Mobile Food Vendor Permit from the Planning Director plus Northeast Texas Public Health District approval. Permits run up to one year, and units must report to a commissary daily.
Sec. 10-76 of the Tyler Unified Development Code requires mobile food units on private or city property to obtain a Transient Mobile Food Vendor Permit issued by the Planning Director, unless operating at an approved Food Truck Park or under a special-event permit. Units must also pass City of Tyler inspections, including the Fire Department, and hold Northeast Texas Public Health District permits, all displayed publicly. Each unit reports to its designated commissary at least once daily for food, supplies, and servicing, provides fire-prevention tools and a self-closing lidded trash receptacle, and documents restroom access for patrons and employees. Permits are valid up to one year.
Operating without required permits or with a suspended health permit voids City authorization; code enforcement, planning, building, and police personnel may issue citations, and the Planning Director may revoke transient vendor permits for repeated violations.
