Sandy, UT Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Sandy City Code Section 21-11-19 sets specific design and location standards for street vendors and mobile food carts operating on sidewalks and the public right-of-way. Pedestrian access comes first: the code requires that a vendor's use of the right-of-way, including the sidewalk, in no way interfere with or limit sidewalk users' free and unobstructed passage, and mandates that the vendor maintain a clear, continuous sidewalk width of no less than four feet at all times. Street vendor carts are exempt from the general prohibition on parking in landscaped, parkstrip, or sidewalk areas only if they are set up on a paved surface, do no harm to landscaped areas, and comply with the section's other provisions.

Cart dimensions are tightly capped: a street vendor cart cannot exceed three and one-half feet in width or eight feet in length including the hitch, and the cart itself, excluding any canopy, umbrella, or transparent enclosure, cannot stand taller than five feet. Any umbrella or canopy over a cart must clear a minimum of seven feet and a maximum of ten feet above the sidewalk if it extends past the cart's edge, and may not exceed 100 square feet in area. Carts must be non-motorized, on wheels, and light enough for one adult to move by hand. on school days absent written school authorization.
