Greenwich, CT Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Sec. 3-20.1 of the vending Article layers location restrictions onto the permit and format rules for street vending. Subsection (a)(3) bars any vendor from selling food or beverage within one thousand feet of school grounds on a school day, starting a half hour before the session begins and running until a half hour after it ends, which shields drop-off and dismissal periods around every Town school. Subsection (b), which applies specifically on public streets, adds three more spacing rules: a vendor cannot sell within ten feet of a driveway or a bus stop, within twenty-five feet of an intersection or a marked crosswalk, or from any diagonal parking space.

These distance rules sit alongside, but are separate from, the vehicle-only format requirement in subsection (a)(1) and the general permit and insurance requirements the rest of Article 2 imposes on every vendor. Sec. 3-20.2 carves a narrow exception for special events: during the hours of, and only at the site of, an approved special event, the school-proximity limit in (a)(3) and the diagonal-parking limit in (b)(3) do not apply, though the Chief of Police can still prescribe how vending occurs at the event consistent with public health, safety and welfare.

Outside that special-event window, the distance limits apply to every vendor selling on a Greenwich public street, including a mobile food truck parked at a marked space near a school, driveway, bus stop, intersection or crosswalk.
