Long Branch, NJ Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

City of Long Branch Code § 256-15, adopted January 26, 1971 as Ordinance No. 590 and codified within Article II, Sale of Food and Merchandise from Vehicles, bars vendors from selling seafood, ice cream, peanuts, candy, frankfurters or any other foods, wares or merchandise from a wagon, cart or vehicle anywhere on Ocean Avenue itself or on any public street, avenue or alley within 100 feet west of Ocean Avenue. A second subsection extends the same 100-foot buffer to itinerant vendors selling on foot, so a truck cannot simply park off Ocean Avenue and have a walking vendor carry goods into the restricted strip.

Because Ocean Avenue runs the length of Long Branch's oceanfront, including the boardwalk and Pier Village, the practical effect pushes mobile food sales inland of the shorefront commercial spine rather than banning them citywide; vendors operating on streets more than 100 feet west of Ocean Avenue are not covered. The article carries no carve-out for permitted festivals or special events, so an organizer bringing food trucks near the beachfront should confirm placement with the City Clerk's office first. Enforcement runs through § 256-16, which ties violations back to the City's general penalty at Chapter 1, § 1-16: a Municipal Court judge may impose a fine of up to $2,000, up to 90 days in jail, up to 90 days of community service, or a combination, and each day a cart or vehicle operates in the restricted zone counts as a separate violation.
