Eagan, MN Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

City Code Sec. 11.70, Subd. 24 permits garage sales as of right in all of Eagan's residential zoning districts, but ties that right to two numeric limits. Subdivision 24.A caps the number of sales events at three per calendar year for each dwelling unit, so a household that holds a fourth sale in the same year is over the limit even if each individual sale otherwise complies with the rule. Subdivision 24.B further limits each event to any consecutive 72-hour period, meaning a sale cannot run longer than three straight days regardless of how it is scheduled across a weekend or week.

The subdivision does not layer on a separate application fee for the sale itself beyond these two limits, three events a year and 72 hours per event, which are the operative restrictions a resident has to track. Signage for the sale is governed separately under Subd. 24.C and D, which require garage sale signs to comply with the sign ordinance and, if placed on someone else's property, to have that property owner's permission and be removed once the sale ends.
