Hudson, NH Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Hudson's home occupation rules in § 334-24 put two separate limits on customer traffic. Subsection K bars any home occupation from generating traffic 'substantially greater in volume than would normally be expected in the neighborhood,' a standard the Zoning Board of Adjustment applies when it reviews the special exception every home occupation needs before opening. Subsection L then addresses parking directly: customer parking has to be off-street, cannot sit in the front yard, and cannot occupy the required side or rear setbacks, and only the home's existing driveway may be used, so a business cannot pave a new parking area to serve customers.

The section caps customer parking at two vehicles at any one time, regardless of how many clients the business might see over a day. A separate parking allowance in § 334-24L(2) lets a home occupation keep one registered commercial vehicle at the principal or accessory structure, and in the Business, Industrial and General districts a second commercial vehicle is allowed if it stays under 13,000 pounds gross vehicle weight and meets the screening rule in § 334-24I, but personal vehicles used in commerce do not count against either limit.

Because every home occupation in Hudson operates under a Zoning Board of Adjustment special exception, exceeding the two-vehicle customer cap or generating excess traffic is grounds for the Community Development Director/Zoning Administrator to revoke the special exception under § 334-24N, on top of whatever separate zoning penalty applies.
