Section 6.28(4), part of the Home Occupations standards, states that a home business "does not entail any advertising, display, or other indications of a home occupation, business, professional, trade, or occupational use of the property, except as permitted by Section 11.08." That cross-reference leads to the Sign Regulations for Residential Districts table, which governs single-family and two-family lots in the N1, N2, RUF, NM1, NM2, and NM3 Districts. That table bars blade signs, banner or pennant signs, monument signs, awning or canopy signs, window signs, and changeable or electronic message signs outright on those lots.

The only sign categories a single-family or two-family lot may display are temporary signs, capped at two per lot and 32 square feet total, address number signs with numerals no taller than 6 inches, and identification signs, which are limited to one per waiver use (not counting religious institutions), a maximum area of 6 square feet, a maximum height of 4 feet, and a minimum setback of 20 feet from any right-of-way line. Because home occupations in the N1, N2, RUF, NM1, NM2, and NM3 Districts are a permitted use rather than a waiver use, they do not qualify for even that limited identification sign allowance, leaving a home business with no dedicated commercial sign beyond an address number sized like any other residence.
