Florida's Home-Based Business Act, §559.955, stops the City of Sunrise from regulating home occupations more harshly than other uses, but it preserves the residential character of the property. In practice that means no large, illuminated, or freestanding commercial signage in residential zones; a small identification sign attached to the dwelling is the norm under Land Development Code §16-81 and the city sign regulations. Condo and HOA communities such as Sunrise Lakes, Springtree, and Welleby often prohibit any business signage outright through private covenants.
An oversized or illuminated home-business sign in a residential zone draws a Sunrise Code Compliance notice, an order to remove it, and daily fines until corrected. HOA and condo covenants carry separate penalties.
