Tyler home occupations may not alter the home's exterior except for one permitted sign under Sec. 10-408. In single-family districts that means a single wall sign up to one square foot, with no permit required.
Sec. 10-75(d)(2) bars a home occupation from altering the exterior character of the dwelling, with the exception of permitted signage in Sec. 10-408. The residential sign table in Sec. 10-408 allows single-family and two-family lots one wall sign of up to one square foot; it may be swapped for a freestanding sign of the same size no taller than six feet, set back at least five feet. The table states a permit, license, or bond is not required for that sign. Larger commercial signage and window advertising remain prohibited in residential districts.
Signs exceeding the one-square-foot allowance, or any signage that diminishes the neighborhood's residential character, violate Sec. 10-75 and 10-408 and are subject to a removal order and code enforcement citation.
