Castle Rock permits home occupations in residential districts (R-1, R-1A, R-2, R-3, MH and residential PDs) as long as the business is conducted entirely inside the home and stays clearly incidental and secondary to using the property as a dwelling.
Section 17.52.230 of the Castle Rock Municipal Code allows a home occupation as a permitted accessory use in residential zones. The use must be conducted entirely within a principal or accessory building and must remain incidental and secondary to the residential use. The activity may not change the residential character of the dwelling or the neighborhood, and it must not create traffic, parking, noise, odor or other impacts inconsistent with a residence. Certain high-impact uses are prohibited as home occupations.
Operating a home occupation that violates the zoning standards is a code violation; Code Compliance can issue notices and pursue municipal enforcement.
