Under SDMC 141.0308, home occupations are permitted as accessory uses to residential use in all residential zones. Key conditions: only a resident of the premises may engage in a home occupation. The resident may not rent space to others for the business. Maximum one non-resident employee or partner may be on the premises between 7 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Saturday (the resident does not count toward this limit). The operation must be consistent with permitted residential uses and must not create conditions amounting to a public nuisance. No outdoor storage of materials or equipment. Business-related vehicles may not exceed one-ton carrying capacity. Tow trucks are prohibited. The business shall not generate traffic, noise, lighting, or odors detrimental to the residential neighborhood. No signs advertising the home occupation are permitted. Certain uses are prohibited entirely as home occupations.
