Full Breakdown
Maricopa City Code § 12.30.010 bars camping anywhere in a city park except areas designated for that purpose, and requires a use permit from the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department. Even a permitted stay is capped at 10 consecutive days, and no more than 14 days in a calendar month without the parks director's approval. Setting up tents, tarps, canopies or similar temporary shelters outside a designated camping area needs the same permit. Camping is separately prohibited on any city property or public right-of-way unless otherwise authorized by the city, and in any area subject to flooding or within a watercourse. Campers under 18 must be with a parent or guardian, or carry written parental permission, to stay overnight.
Violations & Fines
Camping without a permit, exceeding the 10-day or 14-day-per-month caps, or camping on city property, rights-of-way, or in flood-prone areas is a code violation, enforceable by city park staff and code enforcement.
