Property owners are responsible for trimming trees that overhang public sidewalks and streets. The minimum clearance is 8 feet over sidewalks and 14 feet over streets. Trees must not obstruct traffic signs, signals, or street lights. Dead or hazardous trees must be removed to prevent injury or property damage. The city may trim or remove trees in the public right-of-way.
Unauthorized removal of protected trees: $500 to $10,000+ per tree. Replacement planting may be required.
