Old Bridge, NJ Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

Township Code Chapter 366 adopts the 2006 International Property Maintenance Code by reference in § 366-1, then customizes several of its blank fields for Old Bridge in § 366-2. Subsection I of § 366-2 fills in the IPMC's exterior-growth standard by inserting a 10-inch height limit, so vegetation on a lot cannot legally grow past that mark under the Township's version of the code. The same § 366-2 table also sets the companion seasonal dates that IPMC provisions reference elsewhere: § 366-2.J inserts April 1 to November 1 for one screening-type requirement, and §§ 366-2.K and 366-2.L insert October 1 to May 1 for two others, showing the Township customized the model code with specific numbers and dates rather than leaving IPMC blanks unfilled.

Enforcement of the 10-inch limit runs through the same Code Enforcement structure as the rest of Chapter 366: the Construction Official, styled the Director of Code Enforcement under § 366-2.C, issues a written notice of violation under § 366-3 describing the overgrowth and giving the owner or occupant 20 days from receipt to cut it back. If the condition isn't remedied, § 366-4 lets the Business Administrator or a designee arrange for the Township to cut it, and § 366-5 certifies that abatement cost, plus a 25% surcharge with a $100 minimum, as a lien collected with the property's taxes. An appeal of a violation notice costs a nonrefundable $100 per violation under § 366-2.G.
