Full Breakdown

City Code Sec. 17-1 requires most properties to stay under 8 inches of weeds or plant growth; larger unimproved lots (over one acre, no structure) get a 10-inch cap. Weeds are defined broadly to include grasses, plant overgrowth and underbrush, but not cultivated crops, flowers or gardens. The property owner, lessee, tenant, or occupant in control is responsible for keeping it mowed. The city only has to send a two-day notice for the first violation each calendar year; after that, code enforcement can cut and remove growth without further notice and bill the owner or attach a lien.

Violations & Fines

Fine of not less than $100.00 per day the violation exists (Sec. 17-1(e)); the city may also cut the weeds itself and recover costs via the water bill or a property lien (Sec. 17-2).
