Perth Amboy, NJ Mobility & Curb Rules: Red-Light Cameras (2026)

Section 414-1.1(B), Traffic control signal monitoring system, was added on 9-28-2011 by Ord. No. 1584-2011 and sits in Chapter 414 ahead of Article II, Parking Regulations. The operative sentence is short. Subject to the provisions of Subtitle 1 of Title 39, the locations named in the section within the City of Perth Amboy shall utilize a traffic control signal monitoring system.

The code names one location: Convery Boulevard between Smith Street and Pfieffer Boulevard. It then adds that other locations can be used if approved by the State. That wording ties the City's list of locations to state approval, so a site does not become a monitored intersection on the City's word alone.

The section defers to Subtitle 1 of Title 39, the New Jersey motor vehicle and traffic title, for the substantive rules. The city code itself does not repeat those rules. It prints no fine amount, no hearing or appeal path, no vendor, no signage requirement and no enforcing department for the monitoring system, and the exported code carries no separate section on photo enforcement.

The section covers traffic control signal monitoring only. It does not mention speed, school zones or speed cameras, and a search of the exported code for speed camera and photo enforcement found no other provision. The code also has separate sections titled Right turns on red light, § 414-19, and Right turns on red light during certain hours, § 414-20, which regulate turning movements and are distinct from the monitoring authorization.

The text authorizes the system; it does not say whether cameras are running at Convery Boulevard today. A driver or resident in the City of Perth Amboy who needs the current operating status should ask the Perth Amboy Police Department or the City Clerk.
