Abington, PA Noise from Specific Sources: Delivery Truck Noise (2026)

Section 106-3.K of the Township Code targets equipment noise broadly: it is unlawful for anyone operating 'any machinery, commercial motor vehicle unit on a truck, any equipment, pump, snowplow, snowblower, lawn mower, leaf blower, chain saw or similar mechanical device' to use it 'in such a manner or with such volume as to annoy or disturb the quiet, comfort or repose of any person or persons in any dwelling, apartment or other type of residence on any day of the week.' A delivery truck idling loudly, running a refrigeration unit, or backing up with a persistent alarm near homes falls under this subsection because Abington folded commercial-vehicle noise in with general mechanical-equipment noise rather than writing a separate delivery rule.

The subsection exempts municipal vehicles performing emergency work such as snow removal, but private carriers get no such carve-out. The Abington Health Department and Abington Police Department jointly enforce Chapter 106, and either agency can respond to a delivery-noise complaint. Measurements, when taken, follow Section 106-4's calibrated sound-level-meter procedure, five feet above ground at the property line, though most delivery-noise complaints are resolved through the 'annoy or disturb' standard rather than a metered reading.
