Inglewood Municipal Code Section 5-33 makes it unlawful to operate, run up, or test an aircraft jet engine that creates a noise level of 50 dB(A) or more at any place within the City of Inglewood between the hours of 10 PM and 7 AM of the next day. Aircraft operating within a landing, takeoff, or ground surface movement at an airport are exempt from this section. Inglewood lies directly beneath LAX departure and arrival flight paths, making aircraft noise a significant quality-of-life issue. The city operates a Residential Sound Insulation Program (RSIP) that provides noise mitigation improvements to eligible homes within designated noise contours. The program installs acoustically rated windows, doors, and ventilation systems at no cost to qualifying homeowners. LAWA (Los Angeles World Airports) funds the insulation program. For LAX flight noise complaints, residents can contact LAWA's noise management office. The SoFi Stadium area also experiences concentrated noise from low-altitude arrivals.
Misdemeanor for jet engine testing violations. Fines and/or imprisonment. LAX flight operations subject to FAA regulation, not local enforcement.
