Burbank Municipal Code 9-1-1-105.8 limits permitted construction to Monday-Friday 7:00 A.M.-7:00 P.M. and Saturday 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M., with no construction on Sundays or City holidays except owner-builder single-family work, emergencies, or a director-granted exception.
Burbank Municipal Code Section 9-1-1-105.8 (Construction Hours), part of the Title 9 Chapter 1 Building Ordinance, applies to 'all construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, maintenance, removal and demolition work regulated by this code.' Standard hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. and Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., with 'None' permitted on Sunday and City holidays. Four exceptions are listed: (1) single-family residential owner-builder permits where the work is performed solely by the owner and family members may run Monday-Saturday 7:00 A.M.-7:00 P.M./8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. and even 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. on Sundays and City holidays; (2) emergency work as defined in BMC 9-3-204; (3) the Community Development Director may grant exceptions 'wherever there are practical difficulties involved in carrying out the provisions of this section or other specific onsite activity warrants unique consideration'; and (4) the Planning Board or City Council may grant exceptions pursuant to land use entitlements.
Construction outside approved hours is a building-code violation enforceable by Community Development / Building & Safety; the City may require a formal request to extend approved construction hours under the director's exception authority.
