Construction hours in Camarillo, CA β sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances β set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Camarillo Municipal Code Section 10.34.120(E) prohibits construction activity that exceeds noise standards between 7 PM and 7 AM and all day on Sundays and major holidays. Construction is permitted Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 7 PM, though the Planning Commission may impose stricter hours on major projects.
Section 10.34.120(E) exempts construction activities from the general noise ordinance only during permitted hours: 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday. Construction is prohibited at all times on Sundays, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Emergency work is exempt from these restrictions. Home repairs and routine maintenance of personal property (such as automobiles or boats) are not considered construction. The Planning Commission and City Council may impose more restrictive hours on major construction projects through conditions on subdivision approvals, planned development permits, conditional use permits, and variances. Minor construction such as home additions, roof replacement, and patio construction remains subject to all noise standards. In Camarillo's many HOA communities, CC&Rs may impose additional construction restrictions.
Construction outside permitted hours that exceeds noise standards in Sections 10.34.040, 10.34.050, or 10.34.060 is a misdemeanor per Section 10.34.150. The city may issue stop-work orders and administrative citations. Community Development can be reached at (805) 388-5360 for complaints.
