Eden Prairie, MN Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 9.41, Subdivision 3.B of the Eden Prairie City Code sets the hours during which construction machinery may run. No person may engage in, or allow, construction activity that uses any electric, diesel or gas-powered machine or other power equipment except between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and no construction activity of that kind may occur at all on Sundays or on legal holidays. The subdivision does allow flexibility: the City Manager may vary these days and hours in writing upon a showing of good cause, so a contractor who needs an early start or a Sunday exception must get that approval on paper before working outside the standard window rather than after the fact.

The construction-hours rule sits next to a companion restriction in Subdivision 3.A covering domestic power equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge clippers, chain saws, tillers and edgers in the Rural, R1 and RM residential districts, which runs on a different daily window and exempts snow removal equipment entirely; the two subdivisions are easy to confuse, but a construction crew does not get the same evening cutoff that applies to a homeowner's yard equipment. Section 9.41 also sets maximum sound levels by receiving land use district elsewhere in the same section, so a project can run afoul of the hours limit, the general noise level standard, or both. Because Subdivision 3.B does not set its own fine, the citywide default in Section 1.03 governs: a violation is a petty misdemeanor.
