Section 11.02.030 lists six unlawful noises under Chapter 11.02, Noise Control, and subsection C addresses construction: operating or permitting the operation of any tools or equipment used in construction, drilling, or demolition between one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise in a manner that will disturb or annoy any reasonable person nearby. Unlike the fixed 8:00 p.m.-to-7:00 a.m. window Lafayette sets for domestic power tools in subsection B, the construction curfew floats with the sun, running from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise year-round.

The chapter's general exemptions in § 11.02.060(A) still apply, so work needed to alleviate a public calamity, restore utility service, or respond to an emergency is not barred even during curfew hours. A contractor who needs to run equipment outside the permitted window for a legitimate reason can seek a permit from the Board of Works under § 11.02.060(B), which may grant relief on a hardship showing and can attach conditions including a time limit; noncompliance with any permit condition terminates it and exposes the holder to citation under § 11.02.990.

The Lafayette Police Department enforces the curfew on complaint, and the Building Commissioner's office and Code Enforcement/Neighborhood Resource Team likewise field noise complaints tied to active building sites.
