Gas and electric leaf blowers are allowed in unincorporated Riverside County only during daytime hours and must not exceed noise limits at adjacent residential property lines.
Riverside County does not impose a countywide ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, but their use is governed by Ordinance No. 847 noise limits and general nuisance provisions. Powered landscaping equipment should only be operated between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in most residential zones, with weekend and holiday use subject to the same daytime limits. Equipment must be operated so that sound at the nearest residential property line does not exceed daytime dBA caps (commonly 55 dBA). California's statewide regulation AB 1346 (effective 2024) phases out the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines including leaf blowers, accelerating the transition to battery units; existing gas equipment may continue to be used but must still meet county noise rules. HOAs within unincorporated areas may impose stricter limits or outright bans.
Citations for operating outside allowed hours or exceeding dBA limits typically begin around $100 and escalate for repeat offenses.
