Cupertino requires "certified" leaf blowers rated 65 dBA or less at 50 feet on all properties citywide (Ordinance 21-2213, effective Nov. 6, 2022). Gas blowers are allowed only if they meet 65 dBA and carry the ANSI B175.2 sticker; louder units are banned.
Cupertino Municipal Code Sections 10.48.010 and 10.48.051, added by Ordinance No. 21-2213 (effective November 6, 2022), require that only "certified" leaf blowers rated 65 dBA or less at 50 feet be used on any property citywide. This is a noise standard, not a gas ban: a gas blower is permitted if it meets 65 dBA and carries the ANSI B175.2 sticker; electric blowers must show the rating in their specs. Any blower rated over 65 dBA at 50 feet may not be used. As landscape maintenance, blowing is limited to CMC 10.48.051 hours: 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. weekdays, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. weekends and holidays. Owners are responsible even when a hired gardener uses the blower.
Leaf-blower violations fall under Chapter 10.48, a misdemeanor punishable per CMC Chapter 1.12 (CMC 10.48.070). Verified violations get a courtesy notice; repeat violations at the same address can result in a citation and fines to the property owner.
