Per LBMC 8.80.200(M)(3), no person shall operate a leaf blower within residential areas, or within 400 feet of residential areas, during the following restricted hours: Monday through Friday before 7:00 AM and after 8:00 PM; Saturday before 9:00 AM and after 5:00 PM; Sunday and legal holidays before 11:00 AM and after 5:00 PM. Long Beach does not have an outright ban on gas-powered leaf blowers, though California's statewide AB 1346 ban on the sale of new gas-powered small engines took effect January 2024, gradually phasing out gas equipment. The City's noise ordinance general decibel limits (LBMC 8.80.150) also apply to leaf blower noise.
Violation of the noise ordinance is a misdemeanor under LBMC 8.80, punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 180 days, or both.
