Walnut Creek, CA Noise Ordinances: Leaf Blower Rules (2026)

Walnut Creek restricts powered lawn-care equipment under the same residential-noise framework as construction activity. Lawn mowers, edgers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, and similar powered yard tools may be operated on weekdays between 7:30 AM and 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Professional landscapers servicing residential properties must observe these hours; commercial lots and HOA common areas may have slightly different schedules per their CC&Rs but cannot exceed these ordinance hours. Battery-electric equipment is strongly encouraged and is subject only to the general audibility and decibel rules.

Gas-powered leaf blowers face an additional local ordinance (see leaf-blower-restrictions subcategory) and are affected by California AB 1346, which banned the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines effective January 1, 2024. Violations are typically addressed first by warning, then by administrative citation. Homeowners are responsible for the conduct of their hired landscapers, citations are issued to the property owner when the contractor cannot be identified on site.
