Macon-Bibb County, GA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Sec. 15-26(a) of the general County Code opens with a blanket ban on creating any unreasonably loud, disturbing and unnecessary noise within Macon-Bibb County, and on noise of such character, intensity or duration as to be detrimental to life or health or a disturbance of the public peace and welfare. m. m. m. Saturday and Sunday, any noise regulated or prohibited elsewhere in the section is automatically a violation if it's readily audible in another home, residence, apartment or building with its usual openings, windows and doors, closed.

Liability under this subsection falls on the person causing the noise or on the owner, lessee or other person in control of the property from which it emanates. The quiet-hours window works together with the itemized list in Sec. 15-26(b), covering musical instruments, voices and animal noise, vehicle horns, construction, dumpster handling and loudspeakers, so conduct that might be tolerated during the day (like a radio at moderate volume) becomes a violation once it carries into a neighbor's closed home during these hours. Sec. 15-26(c) and (d) carve out County/state/federal vehicles on official business, emergency utility and road repairs, noncommercial public-address use, and permitted parades or performances authorized by the Sheriff.
