Quiet hours in Sunrise, FL — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Sunrise caps residential sound at 60 dBA daytime and 55 dBA from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. under City Code Sec. 9-22, measured at the property line by a meter or a reasonable person's ear.
Sunrise regulates noise through Chapter 9, Article II of the City Code. Table 1 in Sec. 9-22 caps residential and multifamily property at 60 dBA between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., dropping to 55 dBA overnight; commercial land gets 65 dBA and industrial 70 dBA at all hours. A sound is not a violation unless it exceeds the background level by five decibels. Sec. 9-18 separately bars any sound plainly audible 25 feet from its source in the right-of-way, or across a shared wall in multifamily buildings with doors and windows closed. City code enforcement and Sunrise Police respond to complaints.
A noise disturbance is punishable by a fine up to $500 under City Code Sec. 1-15, and code enforcement may issue civil citations under Chapter 11 with escalating daily penalties until the noise stops.
