Construction hours in Sunrise, FL — sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances — set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Sunrise exempts construction noise on private property only between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. under City Code Sec. 9-19(8). Work outside that window must meet the 60/55 dBA residential limits or draws a citation.
Under Chapter 9, Article II, lawful construction on private property is exempt from Sunrise's noise rules only from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The ordinance sets no separate weekend carve-out, so the same daily window applies Saturday and Sunday. Outside those hours, building, demolition, and site work must stay within the residential caps of 60 dBA by day and 55 dBA overnight in Sec. 9-22, which is effectively impossible for heavy equipment. Construction conducted by or for the city in nonresidential zones is separately exempt, and emergency work to prevent injury or property damage is exempt at any hour.
Construction noise outside 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. is a noise disturbance punishable up to $500 under Sec. 1-15, plus code enforcement civil citations. The building official can also issue a stop-work order.
