Clearwater Code Chapter 30 and Florida Statutes 705.103 and 715.07 govern abandoned, junked, and inoperable vehicles, allowing removal from public and private property after notice.
Chapter 30 of the Clearwater Code of Ordinances regulates traffic and motor vehicles, including authority to remove unattended, abandoned, or wrecked vehicles from city streets and rights-of-way. Florida Statute 705.103 authorizes law enforcement to take custody of abandoned or derelict vehicles and provide notice to owners and lienholders before disposal. On private property, owners may have unauthorized vehicles towed under Florida Statute 715.07, which requires posted tow-away signage at each driveway and notice procedures before removal. Inoperable vehicles, defined by missing tags, flat tires, or major mechanical failure, are also subject to nuisance enforcement.
Vehicles may be tagged, towed, and disposed of after statutory notice periods; storage and tow fees are billed to the registered owner.
