Corona enforces California Vehicle Code Β§22669 and local provisions to remove abandoned, wrecked, or inoperable vehicles from public streets and private property. Vehicles parked over 72 hours, missing license plates, with flat tires, or otherwise inoperable can be tagged for removal and towed at the owner's expense.
Corona's abandoned vehicle abatement program operates under California Vehicle Code Β§22669 et seq. and Corona Municipal Code provisions. A vehicle is considered abandoned when it has been parked on a public street for more than 72 hours without being moved, or when it is wrecked, dismantled, or inoperable. Officers from Corona Police Department or Code Enforcement can mark a vehicle for removal; if not moved within the posted timeframe (typically 72 hours after marking), the vehicle is towed. On private property, abandoned or inoperative vehicles must be stored inside an enclosed garage or removed; visible storage of inoperable vehicles in driveways, side yards, or front yards is a code violation. Vehicles must have current registration, attached license plates, all major mechanical components, and be capable of moving under their own power to be considered operable. Owners are responsible for tow and storage fees. Residents can report abandoned vehicles to Corona PD's parking enforcement or through the city's online reporting tool. Junkyards and salvage activities are restricted to commercial/industrial zones.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Corona code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
