Deer Park strictly enforces abandoned and junk vehicle regulations. Inoperable, unregistered, or dismantled vehicles on residential property or public streets are subject to enforcement under Chapter 10 of the Code of Ordinances with removal timelines enforced by Code Enforcement.
The City of Deer Park enforces abandoned and junk vehicle regulations under Chapter 10 of the Code of Ordinances and Texas Transportation Code Chapter 683. A vehicle is considered a junk vehicle if it is inoperable, does not display current registration, is missing major components such as engine, transmission, wheels, or tires, or is wrecked or dismantled. Junk vehicles may not be stored on residential property unless completely enclosed within a garage or other approved structure. Vehicles left on public streets that appear abandoned β lacking plates, flat tires, or unmoved for extended periods β are tagged with a notice and may be towed after 48 hours. Property owners receive written notice and a compliance deadline before abatement. The city may remove junk vehicles at the owner's expense if the owner fails to comply. Community Development Code Enforcement handles junk vehicle complaints at (281) 478-7243.
Failure to remove junk vehicles after notice may result in the city abating the nuisance at the owner's expense plus administrative fees. Fines of up to $2,000 per day may apply. Vehicles on public streets may be towed 48 hours after tagging.
