2 of the Code of General Ordinances provides that when a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or mobile home is left unattended on a public street or highway in violation of a parking prohibition, limitation, or restriction for 48 consecutive hours or more, the vehicle is deemed abandoned and constitutes a public nuisance. The Police Chief or an authorized representative is empowered to move the abandoned vehicle to an authorized auto salvage yard. Any reasonable expense of removal or storage falls on the vehicle's operator or owner, except in the case of a stolen vehicle, and must be paid before the vehicle is released.
