Clay, NY Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 211-29, most recently amended October 15, 2018, is Clay's residential-district vehicle-size ordinance inside Chapter 211's Article III. Subsection A bans parking any motor vehicle or trailer, defined as a vehicle not self-propelled and towed on the highway by a motor vehicle, that is over 22 feet long, and separately bans any tractor-trailer cab regardless of length, in any residential district; the only exception written into that subsection points to Subsection C's recreational-vehicle rules. Subsection E adds a second, independent ban that applies even to shorter vehicles: no commercial or business vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds, and no racing or stock car, may be parked outdoors in a residential district at all, regardless of length.

Together the two subsections mean a delivery box truck, a tractor-trailer cab or a heavy contractor's truck cannot sit overnight on a residential street or driveway in Clay. The ordinance does carve out ordinary commerce: Subsection F states that, notwithstanding the rest of the section, the prohibitions do not apply to a commercial or delivery vehicle that is temporarily parked while actively delivering to, or servicing, a property in the Town, so a moving truck or a plumber's van can stop for the length of the job without violating § 211-29.
