Danbury, CT Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 46-121(a) is written broadly. It applies to "any person", so it reaches the owner, a driver, or an employee who brings a work truck home to a Danbury residential street. It covers a vehicle that is parked and also a vehicle that is left standing, and it applies "whether occupied or not", so sitting in the cab does not take a truck outside the rule.

The restriction attaches to "any street or portion thereof in a residential zone". A Danbury street that runs only partly through a residential zone is restricted along that residential portion. The wording is about streets, and the quoted text of Section 46-121 does not address private driveways or lots.

The restricted window runs from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The quoted text of Section 46-121(a) restricts only that overnight window, so daytime deliveries and service calls on residential streets are not what this subsection prohibits.

Section 46-121(b) supplies the definition. A vehicle counts as commercial if it is over three-fourths-ton capacity or over ten thousand (10,000) pounds gross combination weight, whichever is less. Because the lower measure controls, a vehicle that crosses either line is covered. It does not need to exceed both. Danbury's definition turns on capacity and weight. The subsection does not mention lettering, signage, or the type of registration plate.

The same subsection excludes station wagons, compact type bus vehicles, and pickup trucks used for private transportation. The pickup exclusion in Section 46-121(b) depends on use: the text protects a pickup that serves as private transportation.
