Kirkwood, MO Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 14-361, 'Restriction on parking of vehicles in residential zoning districts,' lists four categories of heavy vehicle barred from the public right-of-way, meaning the street itself rather than a private driveway, whenever the street runs through a residential zoning district. The ban covers any vehicle with dual rear wheels, any vehicle with a dump-type bed, all motorized construction equipment, and any vehicle exceeding 7 1/2 feet in height above grade. Subsection (a) opens with a single exception that applies to the whole list: none of it applies while the vehicle is being used to make a delivery or service call, so a dump truck or bucket truck can sit at the curb while it is actually working a job, but not park there afterward.

The section was adopted by Ordinance No. 5992 in 1976 and amended by Ordinance No. 7462 in 1986, and it cross-references § 14-333's separate ban on parking those same vehicle types in a resident's own front or side yard, so a contractor's truck that cannot legally sit in the street in a residential district also cannot simply pull onto the unpaved yard instead. Subsection (c) makes clear the City's remedies are cumulative: a truck parked in violation can be fined under Subsection (b) and towed away at the owner's cost, with both penalties applying at once rather than one or the other.
