Kirkwood, MO Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Kirkwood Code of Ordinances Chapter 14, Article VI governs on-street parking citywide. Section 14-320 sets the basic manner-of-parking rule: except where the article says otherwise, a vehicle stopped or parked on a roadway with an adjacent curb must have its right-hand wheels parallel to, and within 18 inches of, the right-hand curb. Section 14-316 separately bans parking against the flow of traffic outright: it is unlawful to park any vehicle facing the wrong direction relative to traffic. Section 14-324(b)(1) prohibits standing or parking, even briefly, in front of a public or private driveway, with the code's only carve-out being momentary stops to pick up or discharge a passenger.

The same subsection bars parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, and within a fire lane. Section 14-324(a) separately bars parking on sidewalks (with a named exception for 1 through 30 Ponca Trail), within intersections, on crosswalks, on railroad tracks, or on any unpaved surface. Section 14-325 requires that on-street parking leave at least 10 feet of roadway width open for vehicle traffic, and Section 14-326 applies that same 10-foot rule inside alleys while separately banning blocking an abutting driveway entrance from an alley.

Angle parking is controlled by Section 14-321, which requires drivers to park at the angle marked by the Traffic Engineer's signs where angle parking zones are established. None of these sections requires a posted sign to be enforceable, unlike the article's restricted and prohibited parking zones under Sections 14-317 through 14-319, which only apply where signs have been erected.
